Oldham Gallery

Date: 18th Jan 2024 @ 3:12pm

This has been an exciting week for Y5.

To begin our week, Y5 participated in a pattern and print workshop at the local Oldham Gallery. We learned all about discovering patterns in our surroundings and using them in our designs for printing. This has been a great insight to our printing unit in Art this Spring and a chance to develop these skills ready for when we produce our own piece in class.

In English this week, Y5 have worked tremendously well in planning and performing a poem. We used facial expressions, hand gestures and sound to bring our performance to life.

In Maths, we have completed our unit on fractions by looking at fractions as operators and in finding the whole. We have now begun our next unit on decimals and percentages.

In Science, Y5 looked at identifying materials and their properties. Using magnets and water, we tested to see if certain objects found in the classroom, were magnetic, permeable, flexible, water resistant and how hard the material is.

In RE Y5 looked at what it means to talk to people and what it means to talk to God. We discussed and listed reasons for both and drew a symbol to represent this.

In Art, Y5 have looked at designing their own polyblock print, by taking ideas from images of different types of river.
