Year 3 Dives into the Stone Age!
Date: 6th Nov 2024 @ 4:03pm
This week, our Year 3 historians embarked on an exciting journey back in time to the Stone Age! We spent the afternoon fully immersed in hands-on activities that brought this fascinating era to life, sparking our curiosity and setting the stage for an incredible term of learning.
We organised a carousel of activities, each one designed to help us explore a different part of life during this fascinating period. Students tried their hands at creating their own cave paintings, just like early humans did thousands of years ago! They used earthy tones and simple designs to express themselves, imagining what it might have felt like to communicate without words.
In our research and fact-finding station, students explored interesting Stone Age facts and began piecing together what daily life was like—from the tools people used to the ways they hunted and gathered food. It was amazing to see their curiosity sparked as they discovered new details about the distant past!
At another station, students worked on recreating Stone Age monuments like Stonehenge, experimenting with different materials to understand the construction of these ancient sites.
Finally, we had some fun with a Stone Age word search, where students tackled key vocabulary like "hunter-gatherer," "flint," and "shelter." This helped reinforce new terms and get us all comfortable with some important words we'll be using throughout the topic.
We are looking forward to even more adventures as we continue learning about the Stone Age in the coming weeks. What a brilliant start to our history topic!
